Conservation

Researchers in Georgia have secured funding for a project designed to better understand the ecology of cave-dwelling bats in northern Georgia. The project will be focused on the Indiana bat (Myotis sodalis) and northern long-eared bat (Myotis septentrionalis) with the goals of determining and refining ranges and identifying potentially important areas and habitat types. The project is a collaborative effort between the GA Department of Natural Resources, UGA’s Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources, and the GA Department of Transportation and results will be used by these and other organizations to improve management of these threatened species in Georgia and the surrounding states.
